Media Access Australia’s New Media Project Manager, Dr Scott Hollier, was interviewed by ABC’s Radio National on access to the Internet and new media. The program covers significant advances in access for people with disabilities, including many built-in access features now offered. Whilst there is much progress, the interview points to more that needs to happen to achieve full access.
NCAM creates guidelines for iTunes access

The National Center for Accessible Media, part of WGBH in Boston USA, has created guidelines for content providers who want to include audio description and captions on iTunes U media. Step-by-step documentation is provided on how to create accessible media, including both closed and open captions and audio description. The site also includes video and audio clips that demonstrate captions and description on iTunes U media.
Intel Reader released to convert printed text to speech

Intel have launched a handheld device called the Intel Reader, designed to assist people who are blind or vision impaired in gaining access to printed text. The reader features a camera which takes pictures of the text and then converts the text into speech.

US blind gamer sues for online game access

A vision impaired gamer in California became frustrated by repeated requests to Sony to make its games more accessible and has sued, alleging that Sony failed to implement features to make games accessible to visually impaired gamers. The law suit is about online games and cited how other games, such as World of Warcraft and Terraformers, had features which allowed vision impaired people to play them.
Live demonstration of iPhone, Mac accessibility coming to Sydney Apple store
